Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 21, 2026

Lightkeep is operated by Surettech, a sole proprietorship of Jeff Surette based in Massachusetts, USA. Most of what Lightkeep holds—your calendar events and household details—stays on your devices and in your iCloud. This policy explains the narrower set of information used to run accounts, invitation scanning, and optional subscriptions.

The short version

  • Your calendar and household data live on your devices and in your iCloud, not in a Lightkeep calendar database.
  • Scanning sends the invitation you choose through Lightkeep’s server to Anthropic’s API. Lightkeep does not persist the image.
  • Joining the launch waitlist is optional and separate from your Lightkeep account.
  • We do not sell personal data, share it for advertising, or track you across other companies’ apps and sites.
  • You can delete the account records Lightkeep holds from Settings or by contacting us.

What Lightkeep collects

Lightkeep collects only what is needed for your account, scanning allowance, and optional subscription:

  • Sign in with Apple identifier. Apple gives Lightkeep an opaque identifier when you sign in. If you choose to share an email address, it is stored with the account. We do not use that address for marketing without a separate request or consent.
  • Subscription state. If you subscribe to Lightkeep Pro, Lightkeep stores your entitlement status and Apple transaction identifier so the app can confirm access and prevent a purchase from being attached to multiple Lightkeep accounts.
  • Scan counts. Lightkeep stores monthly and daily counters so it can apply the Basic allowance and protect the scanning service from abuse. These are counts, not copies of invitations.
  • Operational data. Our infrastructure providers may process limited request, security, and diagnostic data—such as IP address, timestamp, or error details—to deliver and protect the service. Lightkeep does not use that information to build advertising profiles.
  • Waitlist email. If you join the launch waitlist, Lightkeep keeps the email address you submit so we can send the launch update you requested. This is separate from Sign in with Apple. You can ask us to remove it at any time.

Where family calendar data lives

  • On your devices and in your iCloud. Calendar events, countdowns, recurring items, notes, scanned-invitation records, and app settings are stored locally and, where supported, synced through Apple’s iCloud services using your Apple account. They do not pass through Lightkeep’s account servers.
  • Calendar sharing is handled by Apple. To show a shared calendar across different Apple IDs, that calendar must already be shared through iCloud. Lightkeep’s device pairing does not copy events or other household data between Apple IDs.

Scanning an invitation

When you choose a photo for invitation scanning:

  1. Lightkeep resizes the photo and strips embedded metadata, including location metadata, before upload.
  2. The photo is sent over an encrypted connection to Lightkeep’s server, which passes it to Anthropic’s API to extract details such as the event title, date, time, and place.
  3. Lightkeep holds the photo in memory only long enough to complete the request. Lightkeep does not save the image or extracted event text on its server.
  4. You review the extracted details before choosing whether to add the event to your calendar.

Anthropic is a separate service provider. Anthropic states that standard commercial API inputs and outputs are automatically deleted within 30 days, subject to limited exceptions, and are not used to train its models by default. See Anthropic’s current explanations of API retention and model training.

Calendar and photo access

Lightkeep asks for calendar access so it can display events and add the events you approve. It asks for camera or photo-library access only when you choose to scan an invitation. Calendar data is read and written on your device through Apple’s system frameworks. The only photo sent for scanning is the one you deliberately select or capture.

Service providers

Lightkeep uses a small number of providers to operate the service:

  • Apple for Sign in with Apple, calendars, iCloud sync, App Store distribution, StoreKit purchases, and subscription management.
  • Cloudflare for hosting, backend infrastructure, security, and related operational services.
  • Anthropic to read invitation images you choose to scan.

We do not sell personal data or share it for targeted advertising. These providers process information only as needed to supply their services, under their own terms and privacy policies.

Retention and deletion

You can request deletion of the account data Lightkeep holds by tapping Delete account in Settings or emailing support@lightkeep.fyi. Lightkeep removes the active user record, subscription association, and scan counters from its systems. Limited security logs or provider backups may remain for a short period under the provider’s normal retention practices or where required by law.

Waitlist addresses are kept until the launch update has been sent or until you ask us to remove yours.

Account deletion does not delete calendar events stored on your devices or in iCloud; you control those through the app and Apple’s settings. Deleting a Lightkeep account also does not cancel an active App Store subscription. Subscriptions are managed through your Apple account.

Children

Lightkeep is a household-management tool intended for adults to set up and manage. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.

Changes to this policy

If Lightkeep changes how it handles data, this page will be updated and the date above will be revised. Material changes may also be surfaced in the app.
